On this day in 1955, Disneyland was dedicated and opened by Walt Disney in Anaheim California… It opened to the public the following day.  Does that mean Walt and his family did a Griswold and had the park to themselves for Day One?  To celebrate, a quick Disney quiz (answers at the end).

  1. What’s the name of Mickey Mouse’s girlfriend?
  2. What is Donald Duck’s full name?
  3. Prince Charming is the hero in which Disney movie?
  4. What was the name of Walt’s brother and co-founder of the Walt Disney company?
  5. What are the names of Cinderella’s wicked stepsisters?

To those born on July 17…

Phyllis DillerPhyllis Diller, American comedienne, in 1917 (reckon she may have had some work done…in the photo she is almost 90, she looks a tad startled and her kneecaps are just obscured by the necklace)…

Canadian actor Donald Sutherland was born on this day in 1935, English musician, Spencer Davis was born in 1939, comedian and Goodie, Tim Brooke-Taylor, in 1940 and in 1847 Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall was born, sorry, that’s 1947, apparently a lot of people make that mistake…

Singer Phoebe Snow was born in 1950, actor David Hasselhoff in 1952, (is he an actor?) and Rugby league player Darius Boyd celebrates his 25th today.

Quiz answers:

Minnie is Mickey’s squeeze – no point if you said ‘Pluto’.  He was Mickey’s dog – so how come every other animal character could talk?

Donald Fauntleroy Duck was born in 1934, four years after the non-talking dog.  Or 28 in dog years.  This duck had a worse speech impediment than Daffy.  Did you know he was once banned in Finland because he doesn’t wear pants?

Prince Charming was the love interest of Cinderella (1950 onwards).  If you said Sleeping Beauty (1959), that was Prince Phillip.  Good thing Queen Elizabeth didn’t catch him cheating on her!

Walt’s brother and co-founder was Roy O. Disney (his son, Roy E. Disney, ran the show for a while).

Anastasia was the redheaded stepsister and Drizella was the brunette.  Jaq and Gus were the mice.  Lucifer was the cat.  Major was the friendly horse.  The pumpkin played himself.  Ricky Stuart was the coach and he lost control of the ball and the series went to Queensland two games to one.
