On This Day, July 31

Born on this day in 1951, Aussie tennis great, Evonne Goolagong, in 1962, American actor, Wesley Snipes and in 1965, British writer, J.K. Rowling.

Curiously, J.K. gave her main character, Harry Potter, the same birthday, July 31, 1980, just 15 years younger.  What’s going on there, some sort of subliminal psychological Oedipal complex in reverse with pike?

And speaking of the pool…

Woke up wondering if Magnussen has lost his mojo, Rice has lost her rhythm and Phelps has lost his phizz but Phelps won a semi-final and Rice made the final of the 200IM so maybe not.  Magnussen has another day to regroup.  Can an individual re-group?  I guess so, coz he was shattered.

Leisel Jones came a credible 5th in her final and Emily Seebohm had to settle with a Silver medal – she was disappointed for letting down her family, her coach and her country.  She shouldn’t be, Missy Franklin was just better on the night.  Besides, letting down your family, your coach and your country is Nick D’Arcy’s job.  Pleased he didn’t make the final – he should never have been part of our team.
