W/C Friendly Bathrooms

This is always the room that has obviously designed/adapted for guests with disabilities but it is not just about nice thick shiny railings… for example, a plastic chair in the shower might look practical but without arms, it might only make a one-way transfer possible…

  • Door width for bathroom access plus room to turn chair
  • Mirror in bathroom at wheelchair height
  • Raised toilet seat
  • Sufficient room to wheel chair right up to toilet for transfer
  • Grab rail on wall by toilet
  • Roll in shower
  • Shower seat
  • Shower chairs with arms to enable pushing up
  • Shower and controls at suitable height
  • Grab rails around shower
  • ‘Come-and-help-me’ button or chain in bathroom

NOTE: An ordinary bathtub with lots of handles is not necessarily ‘disabled accessible’
