Weekend What’s On – Carole King

I saw an interview with Carole King recently on Sixty Minutes where she asked, rhetorically, “Where did those 70 years go?”  It wasn’t said sadly or wistfully but more matter-of-factly.  I think we all wonder occasionally how time flies.  Ms King, more than many singer-songwriters, can look back on a powerful legacy of work, including the superb 1971 album Tapestry, her first number one hit at the age of 18 (Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow), number one hits for others (e.g. Pleasant Valley Sunday for The Monkees and The Loco-Motion for Little Eva), winning four Grammy Awards, being inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame… but I get the feeling that she doesn’t look back that often and lives in the now, touring and enjoying.

Carole King Natural Woman Tour dates & venues include:

February 7 – Canberra – Canberra Royal Theatre

February 9 & 10 – Leeuwin Estate Winery Margaret River

February 13 – Brisbane – Brisbane Entertainment Centre

February 14 – Sydney – Sydney Entertainment Centre

PS – a bit of trivia… way back when Carole King was still little Carol Klein, she was a classmate of Neil Sedaka and they became boyfriend and girlfriend – that prompted Sedaka to write his first big hit, Oh Carol – to which Carole responded with a novelty song, Oh Neil! and Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow? There must be more than fifty cover versions of Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow? Here’s a link to Amy Winehouse’s version.  Carole King said that the Bee Gees did the definitive version.  Personally – I think Carole does a more than adequate job – here she is live at Carnegie Hall.
