Grand Budapest Hotel

Grand BudapestGrand Budapest Hotel is simply the best fun I have had in the cinema in 2014. It is a fabulous romp. Just fabulous, darling.

Wife Annie and daughter, Laura, also loved it but I can see how it wouldn’t be everybody’s cup of Earl Grey. Writer/Director Wes Anderson has a unique style and this is the first movie I have seen of his – creative, meticulous, funny and beautifully acted.

The story is so complex, yet so simple it is hard to describe. It is also paradoxical in that it can simultaneously be totally silly and deeply poignant. Ralph Feines is sensational as Gustave H and he is supported by a wonderful cast including F. Murray Abrahams, Harvey Keitel, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Jude Law, Tilda Swinton, Saoirse Ronan, Owen Wilson, Bill Murray and (introducing) Tony Revolori as The Lobby Boy, Zero Mustafa.

Highly recommended – in fact, I am really looking forward to savouring it again! Here is a short clip that should tell you whether you should bother:
